Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf appointed new PCB chairman

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Geo News reported.

The decision was taken in a meeting between President Zardari and Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf and a notification for the appointment is expected to be issued soon.

Prior to his appointment Ashraf was serving as the president of the Zarai Taraqiati Bank.

Ashraf will take over from Ijaz Butt whose three year tenure as the PCB chairman has expired.

Butt's tenure, which began in 2008, was plagued by controversy including last year's spot-fixing scandal in England which led to bans on players Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir, and he was also in charge of the PCB when the Sri Lanka team were attacked in Lahore in 2009.
